Chapelcroft is a wee cottar’s (or fisherman’s) croft nestling at the head of Loch Caroy, here on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Our story begins with the humble spurtle.
A spurtle is a uniquely scottish word for a porridge stirrer. Ours are turned on my lathe on our off grid croft, from trees grown on the Isle of Skye, so far oak and ash, with some made of elm to follow.
Soon we will be producing chapelcroft spurtles from trees planted by us over twenty years ago , now needing “thinning” and also due to the ash dieback that now is rife in the locality these trees have been barked (to aid seasoning) ready for felling.
Once turned these they are oiled with food friendly oils and then , finally polished with wax , made by the bees that inhabit the many hives that grace this wee croft……… I am also gathering auld broken furniture and making “ recycled” spurtles from the lovely seasoned hardwoods obtained, much of this brought from the tropics many, many moons ago. Then straight to you, dear customer, with love from the “Misty Isle”…………

01.
Each spurtle starts with local trees, some grown on Chapel Croft and others from recycled furniture.
02.
Every spurtle is turned by hand at Chapel Croft’s solar powered lathe. Each one unique from the last…
03.
The spurtles are then polished with bees wax from our own hives, for an all natural food-safe finish.
